| Craniosacral Therapy
What is it? Life's experiences including accidents, illnesses, surgery, stress, trauma and emotional issues can all affect the flexibility within a person's body. The more intense the experience the greater the restriction that can be held within the body. These areas of tightness and lack of flexibility will continue to stack up until the body can no longer compensate and symptoms such as pains and aches, stiffness, fatigue, headaches, emotional problems and lowered immunity will result. Who can benefit from CST? CST is so gentle it can be helpful for anyone from those with acute aches and pains to chronic persistant pains that have been resistant to other forms of treatment. It is suitable for all ages from birth through to the elderley. What will a session be like? Most people feel a deep sense of relaxation. You may feel heat, tingling sensations, gentle pulsing and on occassions transitory aches. How many sessions will I need? The number depends entirely on the condition being treated. If an acute problem symptoms may settle in 1 or 2 treatments, however with more chronic problems it is usual to have approximately 6-10. If very chronic a more extended course of treatment may be needed. Works well as a independent treatment or combines excellantly with physiotherapy, Treatment lasts approximately 1 hour Treatment does not require the person to remove clothing. CST for babies and children During birth the bones of the cranium are not fully formed to allow the baby to pass through the birth canal. These bones can become severely compressed. The cranial compression will often correct itself but sometimes the forces of birth can overwhelm this ability to remould This can cause far reaching physical, emotional and psychological effects. Birth may also cause some stress patterns in the soft tissues of the baby and even the easiest of births may leave some disturbances. Interventions such as caesarian, ventouse, forceps and artificial induction can be particularly traumatic for the baby. Many conditions that babies routinely suffer from such as colic, fractious behaviour, breathing difficulties, digestive problems, ear infections, eczema, feeding and suckling problems, glue ear and reflux can be the result of unresolved birth trauma. Treatment is non invasive and clothes and nappies are not removed. By resolving the imbalances early before chronicity, babies are allowed to resolve some of the traumas of birth which allows for healthy developement and paves the way for greater confidence and self esteem. I also use body baby language skills, looking for non-random repetitive movements relate to specific stages of the birth. These movements allow us insight in to the experience of the baby on its individual birth journey. Working with these repetitive movements with empathy and understanding allows the baby to express and process these often traumatic experiences. If unresolved they may continue to cause problems as a child develops. This type of therapy helps to foster a more relaxed baby and deepen the parent, baby bond. Older Children: may also benefit from CST where unresolved birth patterns or subsequent trauma both physical and emotional may affects a child's health and well being. These may contribute to a number of different conditions, such as anxiety, asthma, allergies, bed-wetting, behavioural problems, constipation, dyslexia, dyspraxia, continual ear infections / glue ear, eczema, headaches, hyperactivity, insomnia, learning difficulties, nightmares, sinusitis, visual disturbances and weakened immunity. Accidents, post-operative or dental trauma, stress and many other factors also have wide ranging effects that may benefit from Craniosacral Therapy. All work is done with co-operation of the child and parents.
